Project Background
Complex networking systems often present information in rows and tables instead of spatial layouts, making it difficult for designers and software users to see relationships at a glance, such as which drive is down, what it connects to, or how a failure affects the rest of the system. This lack of visual structure can slow down understanding, create inconsistencies across tools, and make already complex environments harder to navigate or troubleshoot. My project focuses on addressing this gap by exploring ways to represent these systems with more clarity, flexibility, and visual cohesion.
Scope
My capstone centers on designing a modular illustration system that helps internal teams visualize components and relationships more clearly. The goal is to create assets that can scale across different internal tools while remaining consistent and easy to use.
How Might We…
How might we create a modular illustration system that helps teams understand complex networking relationships more quickly and consistently, while remaining flexible for different internal tools and use cases?
Design Process
Below is the high-level overview of my 12-week process, based on the phases documented in my weekly updates.

🎉Highlights
Throughout the project I’ve collaborated closely with Dell designers, met cross-functional partners, and deepened my understanding of complex systems design.
💙Acknowledgements
Thank you to my capstone project supervisor, Kristen Graham for taking me on and sponsoring my project at Dell. The Dell ISG EDG team, and all the designers and researchers who supported this project. And thank you to Dr. John Neumann, Capstone Director at UT Austin, for their guidance throughout the semester.
I will present the final system to Dell stakeholders at the end of the term and at my Capstone showcase at UT Austin.
